June 2012 Avanti Art & Design – 30 x 30 Artist Challenge

I participated in the 30 x 30 Artist Challenge at Avanti Art & Design in the Greenwood/Phinney area of Seattle this last June. It’s nice to get back into the art scene. The 30 x 30 Artist Challenge is where 30 different artists come together and do 30 individual pieces in 30 days. My pieces consisted of Mixed Media and Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvases.

"Do You See Me"Here is one of the paintings in a new series I am creating. I have an art show in Greenwood Phinney (Seattle) March 12th.

Drawing & Sketching

img_2506I feel there is a difference between someone who can draw and sketch. To me drawing is done with calculation and planning and the final product comes out with very little room for error while sketching on the other hand is done in the moment and you get what you get. I want to make sure that when I sketch, what i get is very representative of what I am seeing – not exact though because then it would have no personality. I realize that I have a style of writing, painting and sketching that it all my own and I want to push forward in that area of my art and I feel it will have a very positive impact on my oil painting career. Here are some examples of my drawings and sketches up to this point.

img_2505 These first two pieces are drawings in which I spent a number of hours and days working towards the final product. The drawing above is entitled “Summer Daze” and was done from a photograph I had taken of a young Russian girl who was our neighbor at the time. The second drawing with the crouching woman is two images in one. I did this piece while I live in Maui Hawaii and I felt it was representative of the fragility of the native honu (turtles). The title is “Vulnerability”.

The next pieces below are actually a charcoal and a pastel sketch I did of my daughter as a still life and a vase and glass on a table.

CenterPlace at Mirabeau Point Park – Spokane Valley

centerplace-logoFor the month of September I have been invited to have my art in the entrance display cases at CenterPlace in the Spokane Valley.  Located at:  2426 N. Discovery Place – Spokane Valley, WA 99216

I have been experimenting with creating my art to have more color and depth along with more complexity. I have been painting the last couple of days like a mad woman. Not because I’m in a hurry or anything but once I get in the groove and start painting I simply cannot stop ! I love to paint and I am using as many bright colors as I can. I feel that with the way the economy is  that the least thing I can do is create something to brighten  things up. tree-houses

New Art I am working on!

new-art1It has been a while since I posted but I have lots of reasons! (don’t we all)  Any how – here is one of my new pieces. My last art show in Seattle was wonderful and I sold three pieces. I receive a lot of wonderful feedback on my art in terms of the bright colors and playfulness so I decided to make it more complex and interesting.  This is an example of the new direction I am going!
